The Throne of Amun-Ra is now open for business!
The city of Luxor in southern Egypt is gearing up for the opening of the new Temple of Amun-Ra, the most anticipated event in years. The ancient temple, home to one of the most sacred Egyptian artifacts, has been closed to the public for over a decade while it underwent a much-needed renovation.
The temple is said to be full of hidden treasures and ancient secrets, and tourists from all over are already making their plans to visit. Officials are expecting a tourism boom in Luxor, with the influx of visitors boosting the local economy.
The opening ceremony will take place on January 14th, and will be presided over by Minister of Antiquities Khaled El-Enany. The event will include a military parade and a traditional procession featuring ancient Egyptian dancers and musicians.
The Temple of Amun-Ra is one of the most important tourist destinations in Luxor, and is expected to bring in millions of dollars to the local economy. Visitors can expect to see beautiful temples, breathtaking landscapes, and ancient artifacts dating back thousands of years.
Place your bets on the Throne of Amun-Ra!
As the ancient Egyptians believed, the god Amun was the king of the gods. Amun-Ra, as he was later combined with the sun god Ra, thus became the supreme deity.
Now, some 3,000 years after his heyday, his throne is up for grabs!
So who will be the lucky one to inherit the divine seat?
Here are our top contenders:
-
The current ruler of Egypt, President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi. He has already made a name for himself by spearheading a crackdown on Islamists and declaring himself a guardian of Islam. This could endear him to ultraconservative factions within Egyptian society and secure him the throne.
-
The Muslim Brotherhood, which was ousted from power by Sisi in 2013. They have been vocal in their criticism of Sisi's rule and could mount a challenge for the throne if they can unite behind a candidate.
-
General Mohamed El-Sawy, head of military intelligence and an ally of Sisi. He is considered a potential successor to Sisi and could be awarded the throne to maintain continuity within the Egyptian military establishment.
-
Ahmed Shafik, former Prime Minister and aviation minister under Hosni Mubarak. He ran against Mohamed Morsi in 2012 presidential elections and is seen as a moderate opposition candidate. If he were to become king, it would signal a return to Mubarak-era politics.

How to play the Throne of Amun-Ra!
The Throne of Amun-Ra is a board game that has been gaining in popularity for the past few years. The game is recommended for 2-4 players, aged 10 and up, and takes about an hour to play. In the game, you are Egyptians trying to build the most impressive monuments while managing your resources and avoiding disasters.
The goal of the game is to score points by building monuments and acquiring artifacts. Players must first build a monument in one of their cities, then they can start acquiring artifacts. Each type of artifact scores different points depending on how many of that type of artifact a player has. The player with the most points at the end of the game wins!
There are a few things you'll need to play the Throne of Amun-Ra:
1) A copy of the game 2) Four 1" square tiles per player (included in the game) 3) tokens or poker chips to represent resources (included in the game) 4) One die per player 5) Paper and pencil for scoring (not included in the game)
To set up the game, each player should place their four square tiles in front of them, forming a 4x4 square. Divide up any resources equally among all players and place them in piles next to each players city board. The Pharaoh token goes to the player with the most victory points (VPs), and then everyone starts with five coins. The dice are placed within reach of all players.

Now it's time to learn how to play! On a player's turn, they will do one of three things: take two actions, take one action and roll the die, or pass. If a player chooses to take two actions, they can either do two different things or do one thing twice. If they choose to take one action and roll the die, they must do something that uses one action and then roll the die. If they choose to pass, they may not do anything else on that turn.
To begin, let's take a look at each type of monument and what's needed for each:
Obelisk- four stones Hypogeum- eight wood Temple- twelve stone Great Pyramid- sixteen wood
If you want to build any monument other than an obelisk, you must have at least half of all materials needed already built into your monument area (shown by placing resources next to your board). When you finish building your monument (mark it with a meeple), take all resources used away from your area—you don't get them back until you tear down your monument later on!
Example showing how players can't just order stones whenever they want--instead they must wait until they have enough stones adjacent to their obelisk space
Monument construction also requires gold which players accumulate by trading goods with other players or taking it from cards that are played throughout the game. There are three different colors of cards: Action Cards (green), Resource Cards (yellow), and Victory Point Cards (red). At any time during their turn, a player may draw one card from either deck and keep it hidden from opponents until played.
Some Action cards give players special abilities for that turn only while others allow them to get more resources or even mess with other players' turns
Players will want to try and collect as many different types of artifacts as possible so they can score big points at the endgame! Artifacts can be acquired by playing Resource Cards during someone else's turn OR by stealing them from another opponent's hand using certain Action Cards.
Some Artifact cards even come with bonus victory points if collected before other players!
